Mezzo-soprano | Voice teacher
Edda Austmann started her vocal studies at Reykjavik Academy of Singing and completed a Bachelor Degree with Honours from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She won prizes and got a full scholarship to study opera at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she sang leading opera roles. Currently she studies Mozart opera roles such as Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito); Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte) and Cherubino (Figaro) along with Orfeo (Orfeo) by Handel. Other aspiring roles are Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) by J. Strauss and The Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) by R. Strauss. Performed and understudy roles include Elisabetta (Roberto Devereux); Nannetta (Falstaff); Pamina and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte); Despina (Cosi van tutte); Serpetta (La finta giardiniera); Susanna (Figaro); Poppea (Il coronazione di Poppea); Michaela and Frasquita (Carmen). She has been a soloist with Scotland's National Orchestra and with Tonhalle Chamber Orchestra in Zürich. She has sung sacred works with orchestra such as Christmas Oratorio by Bach, Exultate Jubilate and Requiem by Mozart, Elijah by Mendelsohn as well as The Messiah by Handel. Edda has appeared in concert in Iceland and elsewhere in Europe on behalf of Zürich Opera, Garsington Opera, Icelandic Opera and other smaller opera companies.
